There are many cooking schools in Houston that offer classes and camps to kids who want to become the next Bobby Flay.

Sur La Table, the world’s best cookware shop, offers enrichment classes to kids in Houston. The school year is a time when parents can get together with their children (age requirements may vary according to class) and prepare mainstays like pasta, pizza and Chinese take-out. Houston offers many classes. It is possible to pick the class and date that suits you best. Summer is when more classes are available to students of different ages (7-11 and 12-17). These 5-day courses teach children basic cooking skills and how to prepare meals that fit a weekly theme (e.g., Restaurant Week, Global Street Food, Cooking 101, etc.).

In addition to single classes covering everything from making meatballs and pasta from scratch to perfecting the art of creating decadent desserts, kids can participate in 5-day-long summer camps where their culinary skills are put through an immersive experience each day as they learn new kitchen concepts. The camp week focuses on three and a half hours of culinary and sensory activities for children. Kids will be separated by age for each camp session.

Classes in Well-Done Cooking

Children aged 10-12 years old can participate in Well Done’s cooking camps. The 5-day camp offers a progressive curriculum in which each day builds on skills learned during the previous day’s session. These classes, which are fun and educational, help children understand technical terminology while cooking during the 4-hour daily sessions. To keep the kids engaged and interested, each session offers a unique type of food to inspire them. Well Done Cooking Classes allow children to try a wide range of cuisines such as Mexican, Italian, and cupcakes.

Central Market offers Parent & Child Classes that make cooking fun. These classes are typically for one adult and one or two children (ages 7 to 17) and offer demonstrations and hands-on cooking experiences that range from making pizza to decorating cupcakes. Parents are expected to be present with their children for two hours. The classes are led by either one of Central Market’s skilled cooking school instructors, or a guest cook from the rest of the world.

LIMITED CLASSES TO 17 CHILDREN A SESSION. Camps will only be open to 17-20 kids per session (unless there are changes in guidance). Masks are not longer required but up to the parent’s discretion. Fully vaccinated staff.

Children 6-14 years old pay $600.00 per week, or $130 each day. All Meals Included.

Each day will be a culinary adventure. Children will create their breakfast, lunch, and snack entirely from scratch. The fun part isn’t limited to cooking. There will be board games and trivia, as well singing karaoke with new friends.

The summer food scene is unbeatable! This week we’ll be working on recipes for homemade icecream, watermelon smoothies, corn on a cob with cheese sauce and grilled chicken sliders. We also will make popcorn shrimps, zeppoles and many other delicious summer foods. The week will be all about summer flavors!

This week, we’ll be discussing the art and science of making pasta. Our repertoire includes pastas, such as fettuccini and lasagna, and even stuffed ones like ravioli and tortellini. Each day we will also work on a regional Italian sauce to match the pasta we made. Italian inspired snacks and breakfasts are also available.

These popular neighborhood markets offer cooking classes for children that focus on health, confidence, and foundational skills. PCC offers many cooking education opportunities, including classes based upon children’s books such as “The Gruffalo’s Feast,” which is suitable for young chefs. There are also more difficult skills-building classes such as the “WokStar” class for older kids. School-break camps and after-school cooking clubs are the perfect way to learn about and love food.
