oxo 8 cup coffee maker review

We are the right people to trust

Liz Clayton was the author of this 2018 update. She is a veteran coffee writer and has over a decade experience with brewing and tasting coffee. Alex Arpaia, a Wirecutter staffer at the time and a dedicated coffee lover, conducted research on the latest coffee makers and reviewed the SCA-certified home brewers. Coffee Project NY’s SCA trained training center in Queens was our testing location. There, we dialed up each machine, then taste tested it with Chi Sum Ngai. (something like a sommelier for espresso).

Marguerite Preston is a senior editor and edits Wirecutter coffee coverage. She tested the OXO Brew 9 Cup Coffee Maker with the Bonavita Connoisseur.

This guide also builds on research and testing conducted by Cale Guthrie Weissman, a coffee writer and National Barista Championship finalist.

In the past, our testing team has also employed the services of

Counter Culture Coffee New York City staff; they were able to fine tune our testing criteria and help us evaluate each coffeemaker qualitatively.

Charles Babinski (2015) United States Barista Champion, co-founder Los Angeles coffee bars G&B Coffee (and Go Get Em Tiger) known for their genuine concern about the needs of coffee drinkers.

Humberto Ricardo is the owner of Third Rail Coffee in Manhattan.

What’s Good

Its thin and elegant design were my initial impressions. The Barista Brain 8-cup, which measures nine inches by 9 inches, has the same black and silver design as its predecessor. It also only has four buttons: power, 2-4 cup brewing, 5-8 cup brewing and cleaning.

Oxo’s 8-cup coffee maker is SCA certified. I was confident that this coffee would taste good. Oxo stated that they only endorse coffee that has been brewed with the 5-8-cup option. The association does not yet have standards for single-serving coffee. Oxo’s trademarked Rainmaker showerhead is used in the Oxo 8-cup. It literally rains water on coffee beans. This ensures the beans are fully saturated, and the result is more noticeable when the coffee has been brewed. Also, the temperature of the water is limited to 205°F. This prevents over-extracted and bitter coffee from being brewed. Because the 8-cup is heated in a thermal carafe, coffee remains warm.

OXO’s Rainmaker showerhead ensures all your coffee grounds stay wet.

One-serving Oxo 8 cups shines in this coffee maker. A single-serving cup of brewed coffee yields a yield between two and four cups (10 ounces), respectively. Oxo recommends the addition of a single-serving accessory. The accessory looks similar to the Kalita Wave dripper.

If I used the single-serve option, the coffee I made had pronounced florals and citrus aromas that were not present in a full-pot. Surprisingly I was able to taste the Chemex-brewed coffee. The coffee wasn’t quite as crisp or clear. It’s important to note that I have been drinking Chemex-brewed coffee daily for four years. This has made my taste buds more used to the cup-over method of coffee. I didn’t miss Chemex when I drank coffee 8 cups.

Review Oxo Coffee Maker: Does the 8-cup Coffee Maker Worth It?

Nearly everyone who loves coffee has longed for a machine that is reliable and good at making it. That’s what we know. Unfortunately, not all coffee makers fit that description.

Many times, their problem is with reliability and versatility. The people who can do it all often compromise great-tasting coffee. The taste of your coffee, as much as any other feature in a coffee maker’s coffee machine should be respected, isn’t it?

Thankfully, there are exceptions other than the Moccamaster . OXO Brew 8 – Cup Coffee Maker, which has received a lot of positive feedback from customers is one fan-favorite drip espresso maker. The question is, however, whether it’s really worth the cost. Is it worth spending your hard earned money on the new machine, or sticking with your more reliable but less pleasing coffeemaker?

Just so you know, if you click on a product and decide to buy it, we may earn a small commission.
