8 Latte Machines To Buy In 2021, According To Kitchen Appliance Pros

A perfect latte

Hard to find. It’s a silky blend of rich espresso, smooth steamed milk, and creamy microfoam. A latte can be described technically as a single shot espresso, eight to ten ounces (or more for flavor and caffeine), and up three quarters inch of foam. Felix Torres is a De’Longhi partner and barista. This precision is what makes it difficult to make cappuccinos and lattes.

Luckily, latte machines exist. These machines can make espresso as well as frothy milk, so they are capable of making macchiatos or cappuccinos.

To find our favorite latte machines, the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Kitchen Appliances & Technology Lab tested a variety from popular brands and highly-rated models that use ground coffee or coffee pods to brew espresso and have built-in frothers. They were evaluated for their ease-of-use and cleanliness, consistent taste and loudness, as well as consistency and taste. We tested the speed at which they can preheat, boil and froth. Good-tasting, smooth espresso machines (hello Crema!) are what we favor. and froth both milk and milk alternatives quickly and quietly. Your frother must produce a rich, creamy, and hot cup of milk that is fluffy with the correct amount of foam. The following are our picks of the top latte machines:

The 7 Best Latte & Cappuccino Makers

Cappuccino or a good latte is like heaven in a cup. I feel compelled to drink these warm, comforting drinks by just writing. Sadly, creating the perfect cap or caffe latte at home can be a hassle. It’s hard enough to make a good espresso, but it can be even more difficult to add the perfect amount of foam and milk, properly heated, and mixed.

I was mid-2018 and dived headfirst into the worlds of sophisticated coffee makers to understand what it takes to make them work. There are more than dozen coffee machines that can make latte or cappuccino. Some machine made espresso in a coffee-shop style using portafilters. Some used single-use pods that had separate foamers. Some models came equipped with steam wands that could be used to make hot drinks. The best cappuccino and latte machines that I have ever seen.

The Best Overall

Photo: Mr. Coffee Mr. Coffee One touch CoffeeHouse ($260) This machine from Mr. Coffee is at an ideal intersection between automation, ease, and affordability. This machine will extract flavorful espresso from nearly any coffee beans or grind, while its milk reservoir can automatically make a cappuccino (or latte) for you.

This is basically a sturdier, better-designed version of the Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista, our affordable pick, with a nicer portafilter basket that takes ESE espresso pods and a larger milk reservoir that snaps in more firmly. Similar to the less expensive version, it requires that you place coffee into the cup and turn the handle. You can choose from two sizes and there is a manual mode, which allows you to keep the machine extracting or foaming your espresso until you stop it.

The downside is that you will need to clean your milk canister at the very least every other week. It can be kept in the refrigerator. While it doesn’t have the same rich espresso taste as the Breville machines above, it is much simpler to use. One day, for fun, I put standard Maxwell House coffee into it. The espresso was Maxwell House-like but was still acceptable Maxwell House. It pulls as nice an espresso as it can from almost anything.

Most Convenient, Easiest Cleanup

Keurig K-Cafe ($170). The best Keurig that I have used (8/10, WIRED Recommended ), and it has the best coffee maker of all the machines I tried for this guide. The K-Cafe can make espresso shots, but it doesn’t actually do so. Instead the K-cup system uses no pressure to create the grounds. However, the 2-ounce K-Cafe makes an excellent “espresso-style” espresso shot. This is a great way to get espresso without having to use as much crema.

The real magic is the frother. With just a touch, it can froth milk in three different settings: hot or cold. The spout at the top allows you to pour your milk. The jug itself is stainless steel. The plastic spinner can also be taken off. Cleanup is as quick as an under-the-water faucet. It was very easy to use. I even frothed my milk on it, even though I used another machine to make espresso. It was so easy to use that I did not mind the fact the frother’s nozzle was only for right-handed persons. I was happy for this lefty to adjust.

The bonus is: Another bonus? Keurig makes reusable coffee filters. We recommend sticking with the brand-named ones as they are less reliable than the cheap dupes.

These are not reviews of espresso machines. While they all make great espresso machines, this article will concentrate on the aspects that make these the most effective latte machine.

Breville Barista Express EES870XL is our top rated latte maker. This is a very popular latte maker and an excellent choice for anyone who wishes to go from small and easy to use latte and coffee machines, to an all in one machine.

This semi-automatic machine has been designed with great coffee in mind and satisfied customers. The price means you’re getting high-quality parts, but it also comes with clever little additions like special “no-slip” feet that keep the machine from moving. You don’t have to purchase a separate conical grinder because it has a built-in grinder. To make espresso, you can buy ground coffee. You can grind each cup in this machine before you brew.

Other excellent features include digital temperature control and dose-control grinding (between 19 and 22 grams per dose) for adjusting coffee flavor. The grind size controls allow you to set the crema level you prefer. The low-pressure pre-infusion cycle precedes a brew cycle that operates at the recommended 9 bars of pressure for optimum espresso extraction. This unit also features a hot water dispenser that can heat up your hot drink, such as latte and tea.

However, for those who love latte, the 360-degree swivel steam wand is much more important.

Lattes can be made as simple as 1, 2, 3 with the steam.

The second machine is much larger than the third. It stands almost 16 inches high. This makes it a good choice for those who have counter space while you wait for it to arrive.

DeLonghi’s shockingly affordable espresso and latte machines has got all expresso geeks buzzing. It’s not the most expensive model but it is far more efficient than models twice its cost.

The EC155 offers convenience as its main objective. It’s compact and easy to use, with self-priming operation, a single dial control, and virtually no learning curve. The best part is that it’s very easy to clean up and maintain. It is dishwasher-safe and removable. Both the 35-ounce reservoir and drip tray heat up quickly. This semi-automatic Breville machine ranks number 1 and is our favourite home latte maker. This machine is budget-friendly and ranked in the top ten of our espresso machine guides, which rated the best overall choices. Not bad considering some of it’s competitors were priced at more than double what the Infuser costs.

The superautomatic Breville comes in a stunning stainless steel look with all the modern bells and whistles necessary to create a great latte. If the silver stainless steel look isn’t your thing, you’ll be happy to know there are multiple color options for this model. This model will transform your kitchen into a coffee shop.

The Breville then forces the hot coffee through using precisely controlled temperature water thanks to its auto purge function. This results in a perfectly brewed shot of espresso.

An Infuser machine can be used to create a rich, creamy latte. This paired with a milk jug, and a milk frother for practicing your latte art, and you’ll be well on your way to a becoming the barista you were destined to become.

Last but not least, the Infuser has the ability to make other beverages, which is something we love, even though our search for the best espresso machines. You can make your favourite cafe favorites at home with just one to two shots of espresso. This latte machine will allow you to enjoy better coffee while saving money.

Although we are incredibly happy with this machine it appears that it is lacking one crucial component. This is the built in grinder. If you already have a grinder and are sure that it can grind coffee fine enough for espresso shots, then no need for one. There is no need for an upgrade as these machines will pull off exceptional shots of espresso.

If you don’t have one or doubt your current grinder, we suggest upgrading to Breville Barista, our number-one ranked espresso machine.
