Decaf Coffee Works Everywhere: Counter Culture Coffees Slow Motion

Decaff coffee is a great choice. No, really!

For people suffering from anxiety disorders, hypertension, or high bloodpressure it is an excellent alternative. It is great for those who want to enjoy a cup of tea at night and need to be in bed at a given time. It’s my only choice. Too much caffeine can make me feel nauseated, headachey, and in some cases, cause panic attacks. Fun times. Decaf will be a popular choice for caffeine-snobs who want to reduce their daily consumption (which should not exceed 3-4 cups per day according to current studies). Any type of decaf can be a benefit to someone.

Decaf remains the best-selling coffee product in contemporary culture despite these many perks.

It’s often overlooked by American roasters because it isn’t being branded as an inferior coffee brew. “Death Before Decaf,” and all that jazz. Decaf coffee has been gaining popularity. More roasters are offering several decaf options in their line-up, with recent decaffeination techniques such as the Swiss Water method finding the perfect balance between effectiveness and quality. There are many ongoing health studies that promote the positive effects of a low-caffeine lifestyle.

Or, in other words: It’s time to give decaf the shine it deserves.

Which beans are worth a purchase plus shipping? Which beans are the best in today’s competitive coffee industry? That’s what we’ll find out together: this is the first review in an ongoing series called Decaf, Decaf Everywhere, exploring the complex origins and flavor notes of all sorts of delicious whole coffee beans. This is the ultimate equalizer. These all are decaf.

Let’s have a look at Counter Culture Coffee’s Slow Motion to see if it’s worth trying:

Coffee Review: Counter Culture Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Ambessa

Plainspoken Coffee. A Coffee Review for Ordinary People by Ordinary People, #4.

Mark Overbay, Counter Culture Coffee’s coffee shopper, was gracious enough to send me a bag from their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Ambessa. Yirgacheffe comes from the Sidamo area of southern Ethiopia. Like most other Ethiopians, it is grown on small, diverse forest plots, organic and shade grown. Beans here are said to be small and elongated, with a unique flavor. The beans are sun dried after being processed.

The beans were light and crisp. We expected complex flavor after our Rocket Sidamo experience. But, this was a dried-processed coffee. The coffee tasted more like it danced on your tongue, and then melted off. Most people found it light and crisp, with a splash of wine or citrus. But the flavours were so subtle that it was hard to comprehend for those who are not experts. It had a pleasant buttery taste and lingered. Starbucks was the first one to identify raw honey.

These coffees might work better in espresso. As evidenced by posts on the Home Barista Forum chocolate coffee yoga. We are sorry that we didn’t try it as espresso, and that due to our conflicting schedules we were unable to sample it until nine days past roasting.

Yirgacheffe coffee can often be described as being floral and sweet, with honey-like notes. Counter Culture describes it as:

There are other tropical fruit flavors such as mango to complement the strong lemon-blossom honey flavour. Overwhelmingly floral, this coffee brings back memories of honeysuckle or roses. This is the ideal coffee for summer, thanks to its fruity character and light body.

bread coffee chocolate yoga used the terms winey, tea-rose floral, citrus, and carmelly-honey-syrupy. The elements sound as though we knew them, even though they were not always as easily pronouced.
