    Walmart’s 2022 PTO Policy:

Walmart’s Paid Time Off (PTO) Policy allows eligible employees to take time off work to deal with health issues, family emergencies, or spend time with family. It is possible to take PTO at intervals of 15 minutes. If there are enough associates available, the cap will not apply. However, PTO must be requested as soon as possible, or Walmart can deny it.

  • Check out my helpful info about Walmart’s Paid Time Off Policy before you request PTO. This includes information on who can take PTO and how PTO is calculated.
  • What’s the difference between protected and regular PTO in Walmart?

Walmart provides two types of PTO (Payed Time Off): Regular PTO, and Protected.

Assistants can use regular PTO to plan time off ahead to visit their family and take care of any medical requirements. They also get to relax during the holiday season without having to worry about being paid.

Similarly, Protected Time Off has you covered if you have a family or health emergency that pops up.

In an emergency, you may be worried about how it will impact your job, but Walmart’s Protected Time Off has given associates security in times when they need to suddenly take a few days off without the threat of job loss.

Walmart has PTO policies that protect both employee and employer.

Associates who care for a loved one with a chronic illness are advised to seek a Leave of Absence (LOA) from the appropriate authorities.

Associates needing additional information on LOA policy can review the videos on MySedgwick or contact a People Person at 1-800-492-5678.

Walmart: Which Employees Are Eligible for Personal Leave?

At Walmart, PTO is available to hourly full-time, part-time, and even seasonal Walmart Employees. However, the rate at which PTO is earned differs with each category.

While seasonal and temporary workers are eligible to receive PTO, regular PTO is not available.

    How is Walmart PTO calculated?

Walmart’s accrued PTO hours depend on the hourly wage or the salary of an associate, their position, and how long they have worked for the company.

An example: If an employee worked for Walmart three years, they might earn PTO for 11.8 working hours.

Workers who work 20 years can earn PTO. For every 6.8 hour worked, a schedule is available by logging in to the Walmart Employee Portal.

What is the best way to earn PTO time? Are there ways to get PTO even if you are on PTO.

It may be a surprise to find out that associates can continue to accrue PTO even while using their PTO time.

PTO is earned through hourly service hours for Walmart, which includes the following:

  • Working overtime and working regular hours
  • The ability to recover from disasters
  • Funerals (up to three days)
  • Jury duty
  • Hours of enhanced military leave
  • Reporting on pay
  • To replace working hours, PTO is used
  • Personal and sick time taken when PTO is exhausted
  • Does my personal to-work time permit me to use it on holiday days?

Walmart stores are usually open during holidays so associates might be scheduled to work. Associates may have the option to take PTO time if they want to spend their day with family.

You can’t use PTO hours or be paid to work in a store while on holiday.

    What’s a PTO plan year?

Walmart PTO year differs from the calendar year. This plan year lasts from February 1st through January 31st the year after.

Do I Lose My Accrued PTO Hours At The End Of The Year?

At the end the plan year, FT Associates can get up to 80 and PT Associates 48 hours each of their PTO.

Any associate with more PTO hours than these amounts will have the balance “cashed out” and paid on their first paycheck in February.

However, since this money is taxable, cash-out payments will have the exact tax requirements as your regular hourly wages.

How can I ask for PTO at Walmart

To request a PTO you will need to visit the Global Time & Attendance portal (GTAP).

Employees must notify management as soon as they are aware that they will need to request time off to ensure that there will be the availability of replacement staff.

Since this process is automated, the GTAP system will decide the appropriate type of PTO for your situation.

If you are sick, any Protected PTO available will be used.

As well, due to the unpredictable nature of illnesses, any sick day you request PTO will be treated as an excused absence, providing that you have enough Protected PTO available to cover the time off.

Other reasons that an associate may require PTO will, including waiting for short-term disability, be treated as regular PTO.

How Much Consecutive PTO Can Walmart Associates Use?

Requests for PTO can be made by associates at fifteen-minute intervals.

There is currently no limit on the number of consecutive days that can be requested, provided there are enough hours available in an associate’s PTO account.

What Happens If I Need More Time Off?

You are eligible for short-term disability benefits if you’re a Walmart associate who works full time. This will extend your pay time off in the event of a serious medical condition.

You can also apply for an LOA in situations where short-term disability cannot be used, such as with illness to a family member.

    Can Walmart Deny PTO?

Walmart associates are required to request PTO whenever they become aware of an employee’s absence. Associates who do not have enough PTO hours can refuse to request it.

Managers can decline a PTO request if they do not have enough staff to provide for your needs.

Walmart’s attendance policy still allows you to count any absence as an occurrence.

You can read our other posts about Walmart’s termination and firing policies, as well as how to report sick to Walmart.

  • Conclusion
  • Walmart’s PTO policy says that all eligible employees can take leave for any reason, including holidays and sick days, provided they have enough PTO.

Walmart. How Much Poto Can You Buy?

Part-time hours associates can take over 80 hours each year of PTO. An hourly employee can only carry over 48 hours. This gives you more flexibility to take a vacation at a time of the year you choose.

How Long Do I Have To Work At Walmart To Get Pto?

PTO years are determined by the date you reach your work anniversary during each plan year. This is not the current tenure. You can therefore ‘level up’ early. PTO can be used as soon as possible after you have earned it.

What does Pto mean for next year Walmart?

Your protected PTO will not be used and can simply roll over to the next calendar year. Any regular PTO you keep at the beginning of the year could be used to make cash. All regular PTO will be cashed out if there are 80 hours or more (48 hours for part time).

Walmart: What is the Pto calculation?

PTO hours earned are based upon how long you have been working at Walmart as well the hours of service you have (on driving, duty and driving) and your benefit hours. Instead of waiting to your anniversary to use your PTO, you can immediately start using it.
